Running: Training, Goals and Upcoming Races

Getting back into a running schedule after a cross-country move has been difficult to say to the less. The biggest challenge was by far was finding time. Running in Ohio and Kentucky is much more pleasant than running in Texas and very different. The humidity is a lot lower. Temperatures are much more pleasant. There are tons of running paths. Tons more hills!

Training…

After being in the area for about 6 weeks I discovered a great running community in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Area. I joined the Fleet Feet running group and have been part of the Fall Training Program, since July.

Fleet Feet has locations in Blue Ash and Oakley parts of Cincinnati. The training program has not only helped me get ready for upcoming races but it has also helped me learn the area and meet tons of other runners.

Fleet Feet also provides a great deal of support to runners.  During training they provide water stops for us.  They also provide a different seminar each week.  So far I attended seminars on injury prevention, hydration and nutrition.  Additionally they make running fun!  After the end of our runs they have surprised us with treats, partnered with Ascis and Brooks to let us try on different shoes and provided up neat gear for upcoming races.

Goals …

Running in a new location and in a new environment has helped me renew my love for running.  Over the last couple of months I have fallen in love with running all over again.  This has sparked some new running goals….

  • Run at least 30 miles each week
  • Run at least one race per month
  • Over the next 5 years run at least one half marathon in each state
  • Get my 5k pace down to 20 minutes and half marathon time to 2:45
  • Track my milage (better)
  • Improve my nutrition and hydration habits
