Dinner at the Chart House – Newport, KY

Over the years the Chart House restaurant has become our go to restaurant for special events; Allyn and I had several special dates there, we celebrated father’s day with his dad there and our wedding reception was at a Chart House Restaurant (Tower of the American location in San Antonio).  Shortly after we were married we made it a goal to celebrate our anniversary each year at a Chart House restaurant.  So this year we celebrated our first anniversary at the Chart House in Newport, Kentucky, which is just a short drive from where we live.

The Chart House in Newport is located on the historic Ohio River.  The restaurant is actually kind of hid from main road is actually on the river banks.  The dining area is small but from where ever you are seated you see view of both the water and the Cincinnati skyline, including the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge.  When it is warm you can actually dine on the restaurant’s deck, which I would image be offer for an exceptional view of the sunset over the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Like at all of the Chart House locations the food is exceptional – fresh and full of excellence flavor.  One of things I love about the Chart House is their finest selection of seafood.  Even in a land locked area it is fresh and the staff always lets you know what recently came in and what looks the freshest.

Our dinner at was wonderful …

We started our meal with clam chowder (Allyn) and a Creaser Salad (Me).  I had a taste of Allyn’s chowder and it was so fresh, definitely made from fresh clams.   Entries’ Allyn got the Shrimp Fresca which included parmesan crusted shrimp over angel hair pasta topped with fresh crab.

Since they told us the Salmon had just arrived and looked extremely fresh I had the Salmon Rockefeller which consisted of a grilled salmon filet topped with creamed spinach and lump crab served in béarnaise sauce with asparagus and toasted vegetables orzo on the side.   Both were so fresh and delicious.

Given it was our anniversary we celebrated with a chocolate lava cake, which was baked it order.  It was pure heaven – chocolate cake with a molten center (made from Godiva Liqueur) and topped with chocolate sauce, heath bar, nuts and vanilla ice cream.

There are over 30 chart houses throughout the United States.  I am not sure which one we will try next year but have my eye on the one in Hilton Head, South Carolina; although the locations in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or Alexandria, Virginia would not be bad either.
